Give us a decent voting system and maybe people would vote. I do vote but I know my vote counts for basically nothing as I live in one of the safest seats in the country - I’ll get a labour mp and three labour councillors every time!
My constituency switched from tory to lib dem in the last election, first time in like 100 years. Of course it’s had zero effect on anything, since the lib dems don’t actually do anything except occasionally prop up the tories.
Have you looked at your MP’s voting record? You might be pleasantly surprised
Chichester, do I win five pounds?
Britan
Must’ve hired a former grauniad writer.
So even big media are fed up with labour.
Edit: clarity, mainstream news had miniscule coverage of voter turn out. Sp, tusc and other leftist orgs reported on this less than a day after the count so now that we are seeing mainstream coverage of what is now old news is a concerning sign for labour may even been the election comes sooner than expected.
Why would the turnout cause an earlier election? Starmer is the only one with the power to do it and he has over 4 years before he’s required to call it. People made the same comments about every one of BoJo’s scandals and there still wasn’t a general election until long after he’d gone.
Its a possibility that labour could call for early election. Tories had a few terms under theyre belt and got in on way more votes. People where more complacent back then but the vote for labour and even for many none voters, labour were the party of change.
Edit: just to tie in the media stuff, talking about low election numbers is a big no no in mainstream media. So labour must be fucking up for both the working class as well as the capitalist class.
This is such an under discussed point in general:
And it points out that around five million tax-paying adults resident in Britain do not have the right to vote at present, because they are not citizens. They should be considered for enfranchisement, it said.
I don’t think most english people even know about this
Honestly, I think they have to become citizens first. Giving the vote to non-citizens would be a disaster in the current political environment and personally I don’t think it’s a good idea anyway.
Now, is it worth reviewing the requirements for citizenship? Sure, but enfranchisement of foreign citizens, no.
shit take, but go off
