Wait, doesn’t it say that young people and the rich are REBUFFING criticism of East Germany? So they are defending it, which would be the opposite of what you said. The wording is a bit weird and I’m not a native English speaker (German in fact hah) so please correct me if I’m wrong.

I hate the coverage of this. The wording is so disrespectful. A west german paper says they are “glorifying” the gdr. Sometimes they also say they are just “nostalgic”. Like they were little children or fucking senile or something, they were actually there and experienced live in the gdr the view of most west germans on this is so fucking arrogant.

I’m east German and, although I can confirm that this sentiment is widespread (which is lovely by itself), you do have to note that a lot of this defense are merely people who are disputing the insane wrong claims that are brought forward by media. They usually defend some sort of position that both the former government and the current one have had their advantages and drawbacks and at least quite a few of the people that I know would not necessarily take part in a hypothetical revolution to bring back the GDR.
