Summary

The White House claims Canada has “misunderstood” Trump’s new 25% tariffs as a trade war, while Mexico is cooperating.

Trump justified the tariffs by citing trade imbalances, illegal immigration, and fentanyl trafficking.

Canadian officials view the move as an economic attack, while Trump insists it is a negotiation tactic.

Negotiation tactic for what? Mfer didn’t state any reason for them from what I’ve read. There doesn’t seem to be anything to negotiate except for a problem he knowingly created.

    Lmao.

Trump - We fired a shot at them.

World - over their bow you mean? A warning shot?

Trump - no, directly into them

World - do you understand how this works?

    Sure,

That’s why Trump won’t even take Trudeaus calls. He just wants to negotiate.

Fuck America, enact a full trade embargo. Nothing in, nothing out; including oil and electricity.

Let’s see how the red state targeted tariffs go first. I live in an area that would be badly affected by a total embargo, but we also voted against him.

If it’s a negotiation, not a trade war, then how is this not just them giving a counter-offer?

He’s scared because stocks were down a bit this morning, he’s been fielding calls from panicked CEOs all weekend, and someone actually stood up to him. Good on you, Canada!

    Edit: FTA:

we’ve noticed is that Mexicans are very, very serious about doing what President Trump said

    Ugh, sorry, Mexico!

this is going to be one of the biggest supply-side positive shocks that we’ve ever seen

I don’t think that word [positive] means what you think it does.

Never mind that the police roaming the streets will have orders of magnitude larger impact on it than the tariffs.

      Ugh, sorry, Mexico!

Nah, don’t be. Trump is lying about it.

      I don’t think that word [positive] means…

The entire phrase is meaningless. He just wants to sound smart.

The cynic in me says this is all by design. His rich buddies are buying stock on sale this week before the market corrects again.

CEOs might be temporarily unhappy, but the true wealthy are making moves.

The market corrected within hours of opening. The arbitrage opportunity is already over and was so small that only people operating with large scale portfolios made any real money off of it.

Trump will keep moving the goalpost and try to shape our domestic policy. Keep fighting, do not negotiate with terrorists
