I just launched a website for us all. The reason I created it is because good quality and relevant websites FOR us are hard to find. I mean, there are organization-owned websites that push political agendas, but ugh. I felt like there is a need for this.
I’m also looking for contributors! I want this website to have voices from all over the world. This is not my blog, I want it to be a valuable resource.
Please feel free to check it out, and give feedback on how it can be improved.
The link: https://www.thedigitalaspie.com/
The “aspie” part of the website name was chosen because it sounds less clinical or rather more casual/friendly. Please know that no offense is meant.
The layout is decent and not unfriendly on mobile (please consider that praise; I am a cranky mobile site hater). I’m not sure how much you can control vs what whatever template/engine you are using restricts, but here are couple of suggestions:
- Navigating to a new page briefly passes through some kind of light blue loading screen. The color is bright enough that it is a bit of a jumpscare in dark mode and (for me) unpleasant. If possible, you may want to adjust it to follow the theming or remove it.
- The light/dark mode switch occasionally obscures a few chars of text. It is not a huge problem but may be better served in the header toolbar or hamburger menu.
- In my experience, a lot of people prefer dark mode to light, a preference more substantial for photosensitive folks; consider making dark the default.
- All of the links in the footer are broken.
Thank you for the feedback! Another person here (I cross posted it a few places) also had some suggestions. I plan on changing the theme up a bit to something similar but simpler.
I agree 100% with the default being dark mode.
The loading screen: agree and I was already thinking of losing it or changing it to black.
Again, thank you. If you want, check back on it next week after I change up a few things and feel free to review it again. :)
