If you must avoid meat, it’s better just to eat the foods in a less processed form. These fake foods are really dangerous. There is not real long term studies on their effects.
I make my own bean burgers at home - very simple ones, yet delicious. Here is my basic recipe:
Into a blender:
- 1 green bell pepper
- 1 onion
- 1 400 g can of black beans
- Pinch of salt, pepper
- (Optional) Any spices you like, a hot pepper, lemon/apple cider vinegar
After blending, mix in 100 g of fine bread crumbs. Mix around until the mass is solid enough to make patties.
Make the patties (about 4 to 6 depending on size) and fry them in a pan with a bit of olive oil for a few minutes. Assemble your bean burgers with the toppings you like.
It is a very simplified version of this recipe: https://www.jamieoliver.com/recipes/vegetable-recipes/black-bean-burgers/
Yeah that is the way to do it. Some of the fake meat they sell are made with super highly processed pea proteins + highly processed toxic seed oils backed by big companies who don’t have anyone’s best interest at heart.
If you make it yourself you should mostly be fine. I would replace the olive oil with coconut oil if it were me and I didn’t press the olives myself. Olive oil has a bad history of being contaminated with cheap oxidized seed oils.
Thanks! I hope that the food safety guys at the Netherlands have good checks for that, but I will use coconut oil next time because that does sound more delicious!
