Sometimes I like to cruise the politics sub so I can drive by downvote libs and report them for breaking their precious civility rule, and honestly, I’ve gotten a decent amount of them banned for it, which is hilarious.

That is all

I wish libs would stop pretending they support free speech

Nobody really supports free speech for their political enemies, but libs are the only ones sanctimonious to pretend they do

I saw one the other day talking about how the Nazis that recently rallied should be allowed to because the poster “fought and bled for this country so they could”. Motherfucker, were you in WWII? No? Huh.

Everyone loves to pretend they’re open to debate. Nobody wants to admit to being closed minded. You need to be receptive with a well-rehersed rebuttal.

But this invites sea lioning, which everyone agrees is obnoxious. So the argument eventually becomes “I’m up for informed debate, but you’re not engaging seriously.”

That’s where all this stuff ends, and it illustrates the limits of any discourse.

That opinion’s validated in the federated instances when discussing politics by prima facie invalidating opinions from hexbear users as “trolls” or “tankies”.

Do they pretend to support free speech for their enemies? Or do they pretend that the people they support free speech for are their enemies?

The Evelyn Beatrice Hall line, “I disapprove of what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it”?

Disapproval is not opposition. That’s absolutely pretence of enemy status.
