There’s videos going around of Hu being removed from the summit as he’s talking with Xi. They claim it’s because he voiced objections to Xi taking a 3rd term or something? I generally support Xi and the direction the CPC has been going but idk much about Hu and what he did. My “China bad” deprogramming only started a few years ago and I haven’t really read much about the CPC before Xi yet.
I don’t trust anything the western media says for obvious reasons. I do however trust your all’s insight into these matters. I’m just bad at finding sources on this stuff that is outside of the western sphere of influence.
Edit: Fixed CCP ➡️ CPC
I’d just like to interject for a moment. What you’re referring to as the CCP, is in fact, the CPC, or as I’ve recently taken to calling it, the Communist Party of China. CCP is not a real organization in this context, but rather a name for the CPC typically used by the vocal anti-China crowd.
Through a peculiar turn of events, the term used to refer to the Communist Party of China today is often “CCP”, and many of the people using it are not aware that it is not the official term, as given by the CPC.
There really is a CCP, and the term can be used appropriately, but only when referring to the Community College of Philadelphia. CPC is the proper term in this case: the abbreviation preferred by the Communist Party of China.
(disclaimer: not serious)I’m saving this.

The reporting is so funny on this. Man’s leaving a room, but at what cost???
There’s a lot of reasons but speculating like the West does is not helping anyone.
Like, what are we seeing on the footage? Man is sitting their, at an important meeting. Some guy walks up and says something to him, but he does not seem willing to leave.
Could be because it is an important meeting and he needs to be there. Whatever was happening could wait, in his eyes. But after some talking he decides to leave.
He briefly says something to Xi, Xi smiles, the guy taps the guy on the right of Xi on his shoulder and leaves.
That’s it. Of course it is a five cours meal for the Western media. But really, it’s not that spectacular.
It could literally be a personal matter like something happened to his family or something lmao
That’s what I was thinking. But of course nothing can be normal in China.
Yeah like, it wasn’t like he was violently dragged away or something. Just didn’t know if anyone had sources or if they stated why he left anywhere. I also don’t know what his relationship with Xi is like.
to be fair at this level people are seldom dragged away. Throughout history, losers of power struggles are usually allowed to retire, self-exile, or commit suicide on their own terms, giving them 体面. So not being dragged away does not necessarily mean that all is well; an escort could either be to protect you or contain you and outsiders could never tell the difference.
But if I had to take a guess, Hu enabled Xi’s ascension to power, and I think that Xi Jinping respects Hu Jintao. Of course I don’t know for certain that this is the case, but just what I would feel if I were in that position.
Its probably just cause hes old af. He had to be escorted into the summit a few days ago and Xi had to remind him to sit down. He’s 80 by now
That’s my assumption too. There was something about the way he was looking around that seemed disoriented. I think it was an “ok grandpa time for your pills” moment and most likely they were trying to protect his dignity.
same. I second the theory that he was removed so he doesn’t do something inappropriate and embarrass himself and taint his legacy.
But then, why did Wang Huning stop Li Zhanshu from helping Hu Jintao? This is quite puzzling to me.
Don’t subscribe to Kremlinology. People do or don’t do things for various reasons.
I’m not a subscriber to Kremlinology. I’m just curious and want answers to questions that I have. As a person with low EQ, it would really help me if I understood what was going on in Wang’s head and why he made such decisions. Maybe next time I’m with my boss I can remember the lessons here and it’ll help me not do something wrong.

he was probably escorted because it would be very silly for him to fall up the stairs like say Joe Biden getting on that airplane. the guy is old ffs. we can easily tell whether he was purged or not by seeing if he shows up in public again, although it seems very unlikely to me.
Maybe he shit his pants and wanted to be discreet? ¯_(ツ)_/¯ old people stuff… he could have forgotten some medicine or something… why westoid media thinks that Hu would be suddenly purged after decades of involvement with the CPC, at the edge of retirement, is just them trying to portray Xi as some sort of fit-throwing child; as some sort of whimsical dictator; Ghaddafi. Western “journalists” are just social manipulators.
Old age does not discriminate. If Biden can have his… “moments”, then unfortunately Hu Jintao very well could have his too. He might have been steps away from embarrassing himself on live television, but luckily some people still wanted to perserve his image as a good leader of China, and removed him from the meeting with haste.
Maybe he left fire on gas stove? In Europe it’s very serious business now so they should understand it a bit more.
My understanding – and any Chinese comrades of course feel free to correct me – is that Hu Jintao is seen as something of a political nonentity in China, with his time in office being pretty much just an extension of the Jiang era. (There is apparently a saying about Hu, that he was “in office for ten years, and in power for zero days”). Under Hu, certain negative trends that had existed under Jiang (ideological degeneration, growing power of the private sector, corruption in local governments) were allowed to continue, and Xi’s administration had to do some pretty drastic housecleaning.
For me personally, I was just too young to actually have an opinion. I only saw his face in the news and all I knew was “hey that’s our leader”. Only a few years after Xi Jinping’s ascent to power did I mature enough to consider what Xi is doing right and doing wrong. Given that many of those online are rather young (plus the internet is a relatively new concept in China anyways; bilibili was founded 2009, 3 years before Hu Jintao’s retirement), they might share my sentiment; for us Hu Jintao just kinda existed, and we don’t know enough to have any opinions; only for Xi Jinping did we actually see his policies in action and actually have opinions on what he is doing.
Good to hear an actual “on the ground” perspective on this – thanks! Honestly, my understanding of the Jiang Zemin and Hu Jintao eras is probably skewed, not only by my being 6,000 miles away, but also by the fact that back when they were in office, I was sitting in the worst depths of online Hoxhaism. No, I am not proud of this.
Jiang and Hu were good. They both carried on Deng’s plan of developing China’s economy and not standing up to the Americans until China was ready to stand up to them.
There was nothing flashy about their time leading the politburo but that was the whole point. They laid the foundations that are allowing Xi’s China to reach out to the world through the belt and road and literally pull the global south out from under America’s feet.
I’ll admit I’m biased because I carry a lot of guilt remembering the attitude with which I watched Jiang’s 60 minutes interview as a liberal-headed teenager. There was nothing Jiang could have said or done in that interview that would have kept me from thinking he was an evil bad guy just like I was supposed to. I had him so wrong back then and that interview is one of my go-to reminders not to trust anything that comes out of US Media. Ever.
We don’t really know. If anything I think it was some personal matters that were urgent.

The only way it makes sense for what we saw to be a purge is if the CPC were the comic book villains that Western media makes them out to be. Sadly, because the vast majority of anglophones actually think that, this bullshit gets a lot of traction on media and social media.
I knew someone else would be curious about this. I love the huge charts they make on cnn where xi is really big and every other party sub group is lil tiny guys. Just showing off the ebvil zee jing ping and his lust for power!!!
You can put your own thinking hat on. You see a retired senior who worked 24/7 his whole life now clearly deteriorated physically and mentally. What could possibly make him leave early during a multi-hour meeting? What could possibly make him want to stay?
Maybe you can believe your eyes and it’s just an old man who is proud of his lifelong work, being old, and struggling to fight against the force of time like the billions of achieving humans who live and understand self-worth out there.
Or maybe you can believe actually old man is not just being old, and it’s a deep dark 20 year long political plot filled with hatred and deceit and reveals the inferiority of barbaric societies and cultures like the Chinese. Or maybe old man is not just being old, and he is a secret reptilian about to shapeshift. Maybe notice how Mao Zedong is absent from the meeting altogether and maybe dead man is not absent because he’s dead but because he soulshifted into Hu’s body through voodoo and is hanging on to politics by pretending to be Hu and CCP devil witchcraft and infighting is on full display here and you just have to know what to look for.
We can make our own conclusion. And ironically the narrative we proudly decide on (and these days, advertise on the internet) actually reinforces and reveals more about the intelligence, morality, and mental state of the person making the claim than the subject at hand.
And this is a long roundabout way of saying, old man is old, just like the sun rose because it’s morning. It is time to disconnect, stop letting your dystopian government control your mind and distract you from real issues in life. Instead making you question the rising sun, make you question why are the birds chirping, and make you debate if birds are actually secret communicating to aliens in a plot to destroy the earth.
