I hate their smug holier than thou attitude towards everything. ‘No, we’re not victims of propaganda. We’re free. China and Russia are the real baddies you see. Capitalism works despite the major crises we face every odd year. Socialism could never work. I don’t read political theory, why’d you ask. Slava Ukraini!’

Like, I get right wing extremists. At least they have actual ideals they want to achieve. I don’t ever agree with them, but they seem consistent in their views. Liberals, what the fuck do they stand for? The current thing in the news. They get bombarded for 8 years about how bad Ukraine is only for them to yell fascist slogans within a month of media pressure.

It’s complete and utter nonsense. Just standing for whatever thing is on tv but never wanting actual systematic change. Just vibes. And boy are they proud about their idiocy.

Edit: also their attitude of not doing anything. Some even say communism is nice in theory but it won’t work. Even if we manage to get 80% of communism done (whatever that means) we vastly improve life for a lot of people. But CIA says it doesn’t work so I won’t change a thing to the current system, which also doesn’t work (for 99% of the people at least). Grow up.

    • Recently I introduced a group of “socialist” liberals to the idea of “radical anti-fascism”. That being the idea that leftists should be organizing into militant assemblies to counter the growth of far-right militias. They acted like that was the worst thing they’ve ever heard in their lives, seemingly just because an ML said it.

    • Liberals are congratulating and celebrating Daria Dugina’s death by domestic terrorism, seemingly just because it happened in Russia and could have been done by a Ukraine-oriented group. When the IRA was doing it, it was unexeptable. When possible pro-Ukrainians do it to our geopolitical enemy, it’s something to celebrate.

Just the way they fucking talk. You all know what I mean, they all have these dorky ass, snarky, sarcastic, reeking of proud ignorance and arrogance phrases they rehash over and over again. I can’t even put it into words, it just makes me viscerally angry. Like fuck conservatives and chuds too, but at least they don’t talk like this…

Saw a tweet a few moths ago: ‘libs are always the perfect mix of condescending and braindead’.

There’s a lot of reasons, but I think a big part is that conservatives are SO divorced from reality that Libs feel vastly superior in comparison. In reality, they are pretty close ideologically.

libs talk like they’re still in high school and are delivering a line that they believe will forever ruin the mental wellbeing of their bully. The cocky self-confidence, the belief that their “clever” quip will destroy their opponent on its own, the smugness that can turn into malice if you even slightly disagree with them.

They think they’re kings of political discourse, just because they use poetic sentence structures and pretend to know what they’re talking about.

AND when these self-righteous jagoffs are confronted in person they’re suddenly unable to retort anywhere similar to what they do online, instead defaulting to their finite list of talking points, that they regurgitate endlessly. As though they’re drones programmed to bore their opponents to death.

I have a former HS teacher who I consider a tangential friend. We talk still very occasionally. He was my mentor in high school and helped me thru some very rough times.

He’s also an unironic philosopher-king promoting, classical theology, self-proclaimed practitioner of Stoicism dork ass dork. It was bearable in HS and a little after, but he couldn’t help himself from commenting some contrarian bullshit on every FB post I ever made, like the “Israel Palestine conflict” being “very complicated” and other such drivel. My sibling plays video games with him and I hear thru them the silly ass ideas he’s still peddling, Rachel Maddow listening, “we stopped a tyrant today, November 8”, “NATO used to be bad but now defends freedom against Trumputin” looking ass. I’m not on social media barring lemmygrad anymore so I don’t deal with his ideas often, but it was really defeating that someone I looked up to as a teen had such shit ideas.

Yeah, it’s difficult to tell precisely how much he means it but he’s a millenial so he’s slightly less irony poisoned than most gen Zers. I don’t think he’s going to form any kind of political organization promoting monarchism, but I think he unironically believes that a philosopher king under a one world government is the next stage for humanity.

Libs thinking freedom literally means dying of exposure in the street. And that being able to say the absolute most bigoted thing on earth is better than guaranteeing food, shelter, education and clothing for all.

The utter state of idealism is a philosophical black hole that devours any possibility of discussion about providing material goods for people to enrich or maintain healthy lives.

I see liberalism as an extension of Platonism and Christianity after that. It’s a continuation of the belief that the ideal world(words/ideas/concepts aka heaven) is objectively logical or pure and gives birth to the material world. That’s where a lot of this idiotic drivel comes from about left-Puritanism. It’s better to hold the “correct” ideal belief(anarchism) than to practice an imperfect/incomplete system that must function in the real world. It’s better to lose and be pure than to win and make mistakes along the way.

It’s also the reason capitalism functions. If we stop pretending money isn’t made up and that the bourgeois can’t actually work 300x or even 2x more or better than their employees, or that landlords don’t actually do anything, or that infinite growth of wealth is nonsense then it all logically comes crashing down. The only way to maintain the liberal status quo is by denying the material world and it’s constraints.

As a former anarchist I can say you hit the nail on the head. I didn’t want to “corrupt” myself. I thought I was righteous but really I was just privileged. Doing an authoritarianism is wrong and I’m all about doing what’s right so obviously then the only option is to talk to people and hope that they eventually see the light.

That mindset quickly changed when I started reading more, hearing out the “tankies” and questioning some of my conditioning. At some point I just realized that this pipedream of a “natural” revolution occurring without the need for violence or suppression was not just incredibly naive, but in a way, cruel as fuck. Every day there is so much suffering in the world, most of which I never have to think about let alone experience. And here I am, declaring that things will surely change at some point, once a spontaneous grassroots revolution happens. Several people just died from starvation or other easily preventable causes just in the time it took me to write this. I doubt they would find any comfort in the dreams of western anarchists.

And then what happens after the criticism? Nothing.

The Dutch government totally fucked over tens of thousands of families and incorrectly labeled them frauds, causing suicides, evictions, torn apart families in thousands of euros of debt. This was a deliberate action.

Everyone was so outraged. How could this have happened?? Cue the elections after 2 months where the country votes on the exact same government.

But boy did they show they were mad! No consequences though, we’re not radicals.

liberals are so awful. try to talk to them about ukraine (by saying NATO started the war against russia and/or what the US says about the war isn’t 100% true), and they’ll say that what you’re saying is russian propaganda.

try to talk to them about china (even by saying that china is better than the US and/or that not everything the US says about china is true) and they will get upset and say stuff like “china is an authoritarian totalitarian dictatorship!!”

    i hate liberals.

you really can’t win talking to a liberal. Anything you have to say that would persuade them to take a more nuanced stance on an issue, media’s already rotted their brain on.

Wanting them to understand that backing the Ukraine government is the worst of the three possible options? They’ll call it Russian propaganda, and potentially also imply that you’re a Russian agent. (real cold war shit)

Wanting them to understand that China is objectively better than the US in almost every way, and that the media has a habit of making stuff up about the country and the government? They’ll go on about Tiananmen square, the Uyghur camps, and “social credits”, and likely say racist shit casually.

Wanting them to understand that North Korea is a much freer nation than they assume, that’s arguably better than South Korea? They start shouting about government-mandated haircuts, torture of civilians, wild dogs eating people, etc.

in 2016 I corrected some liberals on reddit about North Korea’s nuclear capabilities. It was literally just provable technical data, with a lil “and that’s why y’all should be calm” thrown in. They called me a “Russian bot”, a “Trumpie”, and a “Republican troll” because I shattered their fearmongering.

There is literally no winning with them. Nothing you can say matters. And over it all, the smugness and “better than you” attitude makes the argument twice as grating.

If my options were between arguing with fascists / far-righters or liberals, I’d pick the fashies any day. At least their beliefs are rigid and calculatable. They’re not going to fold in on themselves in a month and start arguing opposite of what they were, they’re not going to suddenly change all of their stances depending on the topic at hand. Liberals will tell you genocide is bad when China is supposedly doing it, but when a white nation is doing it suddenly it’s okay. They’ll say locking children in cages is evil when it’s under Trump, but don’t say a word about it under Obama and defend it under Biden.

I went to Sigmarxism yesterday. Got flooded by liberalism including one guy writing wall of text how Death Corps of Krieg are completely ok and GW design has nothing whatsoever to do with neonazis flocking there. Also with obligatory goalposts moving and historical bullshit.

I wish I could just avoid these people all together. They have virtually ruined ALL social media for me. I can’t go on a single twitter thread without seeing their horrid bullshit. They literally always just cycle through about 10 permanent talking points and a handful of current ones.

Now they are causing drama on Lemmy. I am considering becoming an actual hermit.

I’ve been a “hermit” and if you’re seriously considering it let me tell you it sucks ass. Choose the social interactions that fulfill you but don’t drop every single one you have.

The interactions here are some of the best I have to be honest.

I’m a little older now so it’s hard to make IRL friends. I’ve pretty much given up on most of my old friends. I still have a couple decent ones (for the most part).

I don’t expect most people I know in my area to be even slightly ‘based’ or anything, but almost all my interactions with people in person are pretty bad. Most people are very reactionary, selfish, and judgmental (over very petty, inconsequential things too).

Also many people are blatantly racist, especially towards Asian people these days. I am very cautious with telling people about my politics in person. I usually don’t talk about them at all because most people don’t get it.

I need to get more involved in my PSL chapter. Maybe I’ll find some friends there.

Yeah, I’m not the epitome of socialization. I have many issues and come across as very rude in real life. I’m a very solitary person but I wouldn’t call myself a hermit anymore.

I meant that you should keep some type of connection to other humans because isolation can make you feel like you’re going insane.

My interactions with other people are superficial, so they give me the impression to be respectful and sympathetic to me. This either means that keeping a distance saves you from being disappointed or that I give some aura that makes people pity me, like some elderly person, lmao.

In my experience, they hate anything to the left of them because liberalism gives them the chance to feel morally superior without sacrificing their own comfort. They need to feel morally superior, but they hate anything that would suggest they might have to be less comfortable to achieve it.
