Honestly, any schmuck with a basic RPG can blow that up from more than 200 meters away with a single shot

It looks like some form of Blazer ERA.

Still even when combined with the base protection of a T-55, it wouldn’t provide any protection against modern tank rounds or tandem-charge HEAT warheads.

The reason why you mostly don’t see rivets on tanks is because when they get hit they explode outwards like shrapnel, so the whole “let’s rivet 1cm steel plates on this tank” thing probably just made it worse (Edit: outwards from blast zone and not from the tank itself)

Yes, 20’s and early 30’s tanks had riveted armor, and it was even worse than you said, because after hit, even if the armor was not penetrated, the rivets exploded inwards, injuring and killing the crew (iirc italian and japanese tanks were biggest offenders at this in WW2 since most other nations got rid of such tech before WW2).

Well they’ve been using himars to shell civilian centers, no reason to expect them not to use tanks in the same manner. And having a tank when attacking a soft target is even better than having a technical.

That was something a former pow told RIA Novosti about a month or two ago - UAF has changed tactics, they roll up with a jeep and start spraying with the machine gun to suppress a position. Then infantry comes under this cover. A tank would be able to do the same job I would imagine.

    Video in question.

    The duality of man:

“T-34 is a terrible battle tank, it only prevailed 'cause muh Asiatic hordes!”

“Whelp, time to send Ukraine some T-34s so they can defeat advanced modern weaponry.”

It should’ve been seen from a mile away when they used words like “superupgraded”. What does that mean? How the hell do you superupgrade something? Wouldn’t just normal upgrading made it an improved/good tank already?

“Superupgraded” apparently means its algebra has been endowed with a Z/2Z grading, thus suggesting the existence of a hypothetical supersymmetrical twin tank, the Stank.

NATO is sending Ukraine “superupgraded” Soviet tanks designed during World War II that don’t even have reactive armor. The move comes as tensions continue to mount between the West and Russia over the conflict in Ukraine.

The tanks, which are being sent by the United States, are based on the T-34 design that was used by the Soviet Union during the war. They have been upgraded with new engines, armor, and guns, and are being touted as a " significant upgrade" by NATO officials.

The move is sure to anger Russia, which has been critical of NATO’s involvement in Ukraine. It also comes at a time when the West is considering sending more military aid to Ukraine, including lethal weapons.

Interesting account. That comment looks completely real and on topic, even though it sounds a bit like a bot that picked paragraphs from different articles and pasted them to make a real comment.

      Here’s their application:

The reason they were banned is because they instantly made a community for their shady premium APK site and that one sounded exactly like a spambot lol

They also have a quora account that sounds less human than here. Half answering questions with an opening paragraph and then nothing, or just completely out of topic.

If bots are able to start bypassing verification we’ll have to step up our game. Sigh. Just leave us alone, nobody here is gonna click your links.

Me too at first, but the sentences don’t appear anywhere on Google nor do they appear in the twitter thread or the forbes article.

Maybe an ai-driven bot? I fucking hope that doesn’t exist yet.

It’s possible to both manually make posts and comments and do it automatically on the same account. They could have written the application manually and them started running a script once they knew they were approved.

That would be pretty easy to do, and I know of multiple that already exist, though not on Lemmy.

Lethal weapons? What have they been sending so far, marshmallow bombs?
