Because it makes them money. See, monolithic companies don’t care about anything other than money and pleasing shareholders. The only way they will ever care about real life issues is if/when they transform into loss of revenue or pressure from their board of directors.

Shareholders can be batshitcrazy too. X/Twitter has been in decline for a while. It’s true they could be leeching money from the he far right but I highly doubt so.

Elon took Twitter private, there aren’t any shareholders to answer to anymore.

As for reddit, they’ve been trying to go public for awhile now but afaik they have not succeeded yet, so also no shareholders.

Yeah, private companies at least have the opportunity to forego greed to ensure a better product.

Heck, even some public companies are able to do it if they can prove to shareholders going the greedy route is a bad business decision (an investor floated the idea around Nintendo that they should charge money to make Mario jump higher.)

This, however, is not one of those companies.

This post that’s trending RN is pretty much the entire end game for social media, and why independent platforms like Lemmy, which is literally a bunch of people Kazaaing the shit out of reddit, is important.

Federation has a lot of flaws, and is not imue to somethings that are inherent to social media, like shilling or the exploitation of user info, but hell, at least it offers somewhat genuine interactions amongst users.

Tbh at this point I’m convinced articles like this are just life support trying to claw back as many Musk dick riders back into normies.

It’s good work, and I think it should be done, but yeah, this is exactly what a sane person would expect to see given all the context.

It’s not news to most, but to the audience that I think this sort of thing is going after, it genuinely might be news to them.

Not that this article alone would get anyone to drop their fanboy bs, but it seems like it’s intended to be a tool to facilitate that. As for why it’s here specifically in world news, probably in case anyone wants to use it as a facilitation tool for anyone in their lives. Can’t use what you don’t know exists and all that lol

Elon utilises rightwing to create chaos and make bank off of it, not because he personally loves Hitler. It is good to keep distinctions separate. The problem stems from ultracapitalists and businessmen being sociopaths and even narcissists.

A nut job that is a byproduct of seeking profit from rightwing appeal, NOT a rightwinger from the beginning itself. The nuance is critical to map out how these clowns are created in society, to establish a set of blueprints as examples for common knowledge.

He is not a victim. He chose to “capitalise” on rightwing audience appeal like a capitalist businessman. But there is nuance and its best understood instead of ending up having another circlejerk on how Musk bad, as we know sky is blue and water is wet. I was one of the first to find what a piece of shit he is, before the world considered it cool. I used to think of him back then and tell it as US government creating a “science poster boy” of USA, replacing Bill Gates in the media.

Ok. As far as nuance, I still assert he is a cause, not an effect. His choice to capitalize on rightwing audience doesn’t mean he didn’t already hold those beliefs. I got the impression, perhaps mistakenly, that you were asserting that he adopted those beliefs because there’s a market for them; I would argue he adopted that audience because they share beliefs he already had.

This would align him with many others who came from similar privilege. In fact, I’m more skeptical of those born in privilege who publicly denounce right wing ideology (although I absolutely do my best to judge by their actions when possible), given that concerning the status quo is obviously in their self interest.

Our apparent disagreement may be, at least partially, due to semantics. Yet, the words we choose do matter. I appreciate the thoughtful debate in either case!

I like to have these kind of debates. Its only when thoughtful thinkers (not armchair bros and sisters) can discuss with good faith and nuance that a lot of problems can be resolved.

I honestly say this with all seriousness. Go listen to the latest JRE podcast with Joe Rogan for a masterclass in cognitive dissonance. It is something that should be meme material like nothing else.

These two fucking guys spend the podcast droning on about how twitter was evil and social media was bad because it was controlled by the left. So he had to buy it and force it to change so it was more like what he wanted it to be. It is the funniest yet cringiest thing have I’ve listened too lately.

Listening to a billionaire factory owner talk about how he’s saving the world with a multimillionaire C podcaster is something to witness first hand.

        Weird but okay

Its worth listening to because the reasoning and justification is just so strange and yet they have the power and wealth to affect a lot of day to day life regardless if you’re ignoring it or not.

Its only going to get worse because guys like Joe and elon can amass huge amounts of wealth easier than ever since our entertainment is such a stupidly dumb yet powerful industry. They then use to make everything how they want it to be.

Why not though. We all should get out of our comfort zones. Its the only way to learn something new. I was surprised to hear the reasoning that elon and Joe used.

The one thing that people on the right do is that they will consume content they don’t like so they at least know what they’re arguing against.

People on the left live in massive self built echo chambers and are consistently out done on social issues because they’re never prepared to argue.

But it doesn’t improve or contribute value to my life and you’re projecting a whole argument about a political statistical construct onto me.

The right don’t argue unless they’re defecting to the left, they mostly just perform the talking points and then smear non compliance as loss when they’re the ones failing to engage with their rhetoric.

I would love to see a week of psychology lecturers on that one episode just to pull apart the shit that was said. These two are so out to lunch its funny until I was realizing that they also have the ability to buy up whole platforms because they didn’t like it.

I listened to JRE regularly between 2019 until his sellout move from Youtube to Spotify in 2020.

The really sad thing about Joe is that you could tell he had (maybe deep down, still has, maybe?) a more reasonable side to his temperament. Some of his political sensibilities were decidedly liberal, even though he is mostly associated with being batshit insane these days and/or as a puppet mouthpiece of the right.

I guess $200,000,000 can really change a guy.

The recommendation is not “woah go listen to this, so insightful!”

The recommendation is “they attempt to articulate their mentality, and it serves as a study of cognitive dissonance.”

You arent being told to go listen to a lecture, and study the words of a master.

Youre being told to go observe a massively influencial mentality in the wild, and study them in a contained environment.

Its like being told to read the bible. Its not because you should be christian. Its because this book influences the world around you heavily, and you should understand it.
