The first screetching part was like tires taking a curve at high speed.
The boinging part was like hitting the bumpers inside a pinball machine.
The final bit of static was like the fabric of reality tearing apart as you break through to… SURF THE INFORMATION SUPERHIGHWAY!!?!!
Like me, you may have developed a pavlovian response to that sound because it meant the modem probably wasn’t going to throw an error and disconnect.
