    Structurally altering wood like that is going to lead to much more wind damage and will probably kill a lot of forest workers.

    And if the end-result it just wood fibre pulp, why not just grow woody scrubs in plantations?

    If the goal is fiber production, rather than going through the expensive chemical mess of turning lignin into rayon we could just… grow fiber? Hemp and linen make excellent fast growing, long staple, durable fibers that require minimal processing.

    God dammit humans are so fucking egotistical why have we not yet learned to work with nature instead of imposing our short sighted will upon it. The hubris of moving forward with these kinds of projects ignoring the potential unforseen consequences makes me so angry
