I’m somewhat new to the concept of wildlife crossings, how successful are they? I wonder if most of the animals injured crossing roads are able to recognize them as safer (or at least more inviting) paths.
I’m not really familiar either. I was particularly struck by the numbers which tell us that most see the danger of the freeway and turn back, but some try to cross anyway, either not able to discern the danger, or bravely believing they can fight the speeding light demons if need be.
Given these facts, if a crossing is built we can be mathematically certain of 2 things. Greater numbers will attempt crossing, and those that attempt crossing will survive. It can only be a net positive.
Personally I’m more concerned with why this problem even exists in the first place, and also why it took so long to do something about it. Fuck Cars.
