I’m an enjoyer of protest camps, bikerides for climate, forest occupations, and other outdoor sports. But since more and more of my buddies start to call me tankie, I was wondering if there is some offline meetup for talking and chilling that I don’t know about. I mean, after the last few months and years I would like to hang out with some people without watching my words and subjects all the time.

I found this video about a Stalin fest in Siberia (by Radio Free Europe!). So cool, but a bit far. I’m located in the Netherlands.

If there is no such thing, we could just make it happen. Or meetup at some other occassion and create a temporary autonomous safe space for tankies (aligned and non-aligned).

This is my first post here. Don’t be too mad if this is the wrong forum for my question.

haha, it’s just that the video is made by them, obviously to smear this event, they call it stalinfest which is not even the official name.

I think you should join your local communist party or at the very least a glorified tankie bookclub and help them become a proper organization.

Btw, you kinda sound like a fed lol.

So funny how you are accused of being a cop if you suggest to organise something. I know there are plenty of reasons to be cautious, but this feels very much like my local anarchist group.

My point was actually that I’m tired of all the hate I get when I’m having a conversation with friends (many of them are some kind of leftist). So, don’t worry, tankiefest was just a joke. I understand now that this site is just for posting memes.

It’s not just for memes, but you’ve got to understand that a lot of people here are rightfully careful when posting. Some might even be in danger because of their ideology, so someone wanting to meet up can be seen as sketchy, especially with a very minimal post and comment history.

Since you’re in The Netherlands, I can suggest going to Manifiesta in Belgium. It’s a socialist weekend festival with lots of artists and speakers.

I once tried to participate in the local socialist party. I had to put a lot of effort into hunting them down and getting their contact information. They were so paranoid of feds and cops they thought my proactiveness was suspicious. A couple meetings later I’m criticising them for their parania and cowardice especially towards the working class. They tell me they actually were infiltrated once. I ask them how they knew; they said the guy looked like a cop and was a little gruff. He was probably just some guy who didn’t understand their language and wanted to engage with them the same way he was used to engaging with people.

All of that work to be a part of a reading circle headed by an anti Soviet old guard who took their orders from New York.

Not to be totally critical. I liked a good amount of them. I ended up leaving the state for a month on family business, and wasn’t in a good enough place to immediately participate in their weekly meetings. By the time I was in a better position I wasn’t comfortable with their exclusivity to push my way back in.

It’s hard being isolated in such a major part of my identity. It would be better to be a part of an organized community, but everyone is afraid of their own shadow. Even if there was an attempted so many of us are so desocialized we’d foil ourselves, no cops needed.

Depends on the group really. A proper party with action groups will probably do more than a glorified reading circle. I mean, I’m out in the streets with my party and my local group multiple times a month. No one is afraid of showing what we stand for.

I hope one bad experience will not stop you from organizing. I don’t have any knowledge about US chapters but I know people on here are members. I hope they can help you.

I didn’t mean to disparage all parties. I know Europe is much better and America once had something. I think we will again. If they’re Portlanders who know more than me I’d be happy to organize with them.
