Saw some suss content relating to leftists supporting Russia uncritically on the GenZedong Reddit page today. The whole argument as far as I could tell was a bit of a strawman . Is anyone moderating the page anymore? I thought I was on normal Reddit for a second.

So here is something I find… weird. As communists, we can say we support Iran, and everybody understands that that support is critical in nature. We don’t have to preface everything we say with a long disclaimer about how Iran isn’t Marxist, how they have various social problems relating to the treatment of women, how there is religious repression there, etc. Every Marxist-Leninist worth his salt realizes that we support Iran not as the Islamic Republic, but as an anti-imperialist nation and an alternative to US hegemony within the Middle East.

However, any support of Russia – on the face of it, a much more natural ally than Iran, given that the Communist Party actually plays a fairly big role in politics there – has to be prefaced by a freaking Ph.D thesis on how Actually, Putin is Not That Good And No, We Don’t Think Modern Russia is the USSR. I don’t see to much of this here, thankfully. But it’s a plague in other leftist spaces.

“Caveat, caveat, caveat, caveat, caveat, critical support statement, caveat, caveat, caveat…”

It’s not only tiring, it feels ideologically weak and even cowardly. Shouldn’t need to constantly retreat even to just talk about Russia in a neutral way.

Yes, absolutely. I have a cancer of the mind that I picked up from Westoid Compatible Left spaces where I feel the need to constantly fully explain the entire universe just to spit out a single sentence. Constant conditionals and asterisks and footnotes and it comes out like gross virtue signal desperation where you have to expose your belly and pre-eminently beg for forgiveness. It’s absolutely weak and cowardly and the brain rotted Westoid Neowokes and Fascists (what’s the difference) are going to go out of their way to twist your words NO MATTER WHAT YOU DO ANYWAYS, you cannot win with most of these people.

It’s ridiculous too when I feel like I have to flash my “woke credentials” just to have an opinion. I held back both anger and laughter many times online and IRL with people, for example, scolding me for eating Chic-Fil-A when little do they know I’ve s***** a d*** and I just don’t feel the need to fucking advertise that on my every single square inch with bios and flags and patches and woke language that turns a normal productive conversation into an hour slog of buzzwords nobody even relates to anymore. Little do they know a single shred of my experience, of the violence that changed my life because I was mentally abnormal or acting outside my gender norm or because I prayed to Allah at lunch.

I kind of took that wayyyy off into a personal rant sorry 😂

I wish we could just so simply be like, once, “hey, this is our opinion/stance on everything” and never have to waste time pre-eminently defending our personal integrity when discussing a WARRRRR

I agree 100% and while I understand that perspectives are important, especially when discussing issues marginalized people face, laning gets tiring and it’s like begging the state department to take all of your info from you. Those perspectives are important and I respect people sharing them, but more often than not online it’s done in a flailing attempt to get the person being argued with to shut up and accept your stance at face value. Just critiquing liberal idpol at this point lol. In leftist spaces it is quite rife, though. I’ve told way too many people way too personal things on FB - no anonymity! - when I was a teenager because I got “laned” on something and had to “lane” back for people to even listen to me. Not how healthy or constructive conversation happens whatsoever.

“I kinda like the color blue”

(Note 1: Yes, I know it was the color of the Falange. That’s not why I like blue. I just think it looks peaceful.)

(Note 2: Okay, I need to make something clear. When I said I liked blue because it looks peaceful, I don’t mean to say that “peace at any price” is something we as leftists should strive for. I UNQUALIFIEDLY reject liberal pacifism, as you’ll find through looking at my posting history).

(Note 3: ack, I looked at my last sentence, and I realized you can read it as promoting voluntarism and Sorelian “propaganda of the deed.” I UNQUALIFIEDLY reject those things too. I’m not an ultra, please don’t flame me.)

(Note 4: Somebody pointed out that US military dress uniforms are also blue. I really, really want to make clear that I don’t support the US military in any way, shape, or form. Think of the blue sky. Or blue water, like the ocean on a calm day. To me, that’s what the color blue calls to mind, and that’s why I like it. I think ocean and land, blue and green, are the two most beautiful things in existence.)

(Note 5: AAAAHHHH, I JUST REALIZED THAT BRINGING UP LAND AND OCEAN MAKES ME SOUND LIKE A DUGINIST…)

color theory in leftist spaces be like

  • There were some weird comments on that post for sure, but most people were supporting Russia. They were just suspicious of people who uncritically support Putin

Yeah, I saw that too. Cringed at the post and saw that it had 58 comments. Didn’t even bother to open that. Since the sub got quarantined it went to shit, but Reddit is openly hostile to popular communist or anti-imperialist subs so it doesn’t surprise me.

Yeah just before it got quarantined the content was golden. I have a theory that I’ve shared with friends of mine that a much better internet is possible but unfortunately that part of the internet is largely hidden from us (you can access it if you’re willing to dig but it’s not going to be promoted in anyway by tech company algorithms). What remains is utter banality.

What like how Lemmygrad is decent (if a bit undeveloped and not crazy populated) but what’s the chances you would’ve found this place if you didn’t happen to read a comment advertising it right before GZD was hamburgered?

        • I found Lemmygrad through pure luck one day while looking for interesting Lemmy instances since I hate reddit. This was probably a good 6 months before the subreddit quarantine and at the time Lemmygrad was just called a “backup for GenZedong” with basically no activity.

I think they’re confusing the odd Z-posting nazbol weirdo with people who see what’s happening with Russia/NATO as a turning point in the US-led “rules-based” world order

Haven’t seen it in months since I’m off r*ddit thankfully, no idea what’s going on there, is it unquarantined by any chance?

And yeah, back then I also saw a few sus comments, not much or anything important by any means, just a few, idk for now.

Why would leftists support either side in this war? It’s essentially a proxy war between Russia and the US, and both countries are ruled by capitalist oligarchs.

In brief, imperialism, specifically the US/NATO led order is the primary contradiction of this age of capitalism. Anything that weakens it, strengthens the proletariat, strengthens, AES nations, strengthens the prospects of revolution literally everywhere including in the imperial core by chipping away at it and leading it towards its final decline.

Russia has always been friendly to nations under siege by western imperialist interests even after the Soviet Union fell. Being their friend at the UN, selling them weapons systems to defend themselves and generally ignoring the sobs of the west to isolate and destroy say Iran or Venezuela, etc.

This is not because those in charge of Russia are special capitalists who believe in AES and want to defend it. This is because they are excluded from the western imperialist plundering, besieged by and sought to be destroyed and brought to heel in pieces by the western bourgeoisie. Therefore in their own self-interests the Russian national bourgeoisie are for entirely self-interested reasons allies of convenience. As Russia is strong, resource rich, etc they’re pretty valuable and China knows this.

Russia is also killing literal nazis, led by and backed by the Nazi Arming and Training Organization (NATO) and I support nazis going to the right place. They’re again not doing this for the right reasons but it needs doing and if they didn’t these nazis wouldn’t vanish, they were conjured up by the US who has supported a fascist insurgency in Ukraine for over 50 years as an anti-soviet and lately anti-Russian measure. They are trying to encircle, contain, extinguish, destroy Russia by ringing it with NATO puppet regimes and military bases to strangle its ability to trade and tie it down in conflicts. Russia deliberately avoided this conflict for years perhaps to build its strength and perhaps because it isn’t really that beneficial to Russian capital but finally their hand was forced and they acted.

So stop assuming naively that all “capitalist oligarchs” what a liberal turn of phrase, simply capitalists or the bourgeoisie would suffice are the same. One bloc (the western, US, EU, NATO one) rules the world and is actively encircling sabotaging and trying to destroy China and other AES as well as actively couping, engaging in neo-colonialism through its puppets like the IMF, world bank, etc against the developing world. The other is a weakened capitalist power that subsists on selling those same countries weapons and friendship because they have no other choice. They’d like to act like the west but until the west is destroyed there’s no hope of that and the day the west implodes they won’t be able to fill the vacuum as the western imperialist plunder capitalism machine was not built in a decade but forged with care and deliberation and great plotting, blackmail, subversion, and maneuvering by the US with the assent of the dying colonial regimes of Europe who saw in it a savior. In other words there is no way that if Russia wins and crushes the west that they can just up and take their place. It simply is not possible. The organs, the interests, the loyalties all lead towards a kind of multi-lateral world with weaker imperialists less able to impose on the developing world and AES.
