text: ‘New study into effectiveness of hi-viz for cyclists in car traffic’
- by Brendan Gavrin
images: Two photos. One is captioned “Driver’s view of cyclist dressed in black”, the other “Driver’s view of cyclist dressed in hi-viz”. Both depict a phone in front of a steering wheel.
I wear hi-vis to give me a chance in the lawsuit. 🫠
Only works if you can survive the f-150 doing 60 in a 25 zone 😌
Surviving is temporary. Being right is forever.
Me walking into the crosswalk seeing the cars with no intent on stopping (state law states they must stop for pedestrians)
Walking into traffic while holding an armed anti-vehicle landmine
Hell yeah! I found my people (I want them to put in my tomb that I was right)

That’s what my LED gear is for - gives me an awesome cyberpunk look at night.
RGB makes you bike faster
Also to reduce cops trying to tell my to ride at 20mph on the sidewalk…
Sidewalk riding is what got me hit by a van in the first place. I’m all healed now.
I see this a lot while on my bike. I simply behave as if anyone in a car cannot be trusted to follow any rules of the road or care about my safety.
What do you mean “as if”?
As a pedestrian I always operate on the assumption that every is actively trying to smear me into the pavement at the first opportunity.
Hey man, you probably shouldn’t be texting while riding your bike. /s
Stay safe out there o7
I drive every day for work and same.
I don’t drive often in my car, but if this happens a lot I’m kinda hating driving at all.
If they didn’t want to get run down by my car, why were they riding on the sidewalk?

I think they just made that exact point, but with a joke.

I thought this was more apple versus android shit again.
I saw a guy typing one handed on his moped yesterday…at speed.
One handed? I’ve seen people with both hands on their phone on mopeds and motorcycles.
Both hands? I’ve seen a double arm amputee riding a vespa with no hands. At all. Just no hands. They weren’t on their phone but it was inspiring to see.
how
also is it even possible to get a driver’s license without both hands?
I once witnessed someone on a softail (big harley) riding down the interstate trying to hold a phone to her ear. I could hear her bike over my bike from inside my helmet so I don’t know how she could hear.
It really annoys me when I see people on bicycles or e-scooters just browsing Twitter or whatever on their phones. At least people looking at their phones in cars have a steel box around them to protect them from their stupidity
Last i saw a racing-biker with about 40km/h… he had such handlebars where he can lean on it to lie almost on his bike… tipping on his smartphone…
I have always the urge to do a loud scream/shout…
😁
I sort of had one of these moments the other day. I didn’t, in reality, but everyone else probably thought I did.
Some jackass was walking across the road an 1/8 of a mile ahead of me on a very busy city street at rush hour. I was running my daughter between appointments, first appointment had started 20 minutes late so we were going to be cutting it really close on getting to #2 on time. Anyway, jaywalker was wearing a hi-vis jacket. He did not have a stop sign or anything in his hands. I figured he was crossing the street halfway because my 2 lanes of traffic were clear for him at that time, the other side was busy.
He made it well past my lane so I went back to sending a txt to my wife about the first appointment (again, no other cars around me in my lanes). As I get near him, doing the speed limit, he starts shouting and waving his arms at me. I still have no idea wtf he was doing out there, but apparently he expected me to stop because he was standing in the middle of a busy street wearing a hi-vis jacket (I wear a hi-vis jacket for work and would expect people to run me tf over if I wandered out into a busy street randomly).
Texting and driving kills a lot of people. You’re being a little sus acting like it’s normal. There’s no excuse, pull over and text if it’s an emergency.
This is a story of you being a dangerous jackass. This is precisely why you don’t text and drive, even when you don’t think there are any other cars in your lane, whatever the fuck that’s supposed to mean.
