My name is a bit of a silly play on “Biggie Smalls” in my native language. But that has nothing to do with me as a person besides highlight the fact that I really dig golden era hip-hop.
I wanted to introduce myself because I haven’t been using reddit for years now and I’m really looking for some kind of an online community to feel a part of. I lurk on MetaFilter but besides that I don’t really have a home-base so I’m hoping I can find it here. Once I figure out how Fediverse works properly, which is a bit of a pain in the ass, but in a good way. It has made me a little excited about the future of the internet in a way I haven’t been in almost a decade. Mainly because I feel this is a bit of a more of a private space. That’s a reason why I’m keeping the introductory post vague. Although if you’re truly interested in any of what I’ve written it’s not like I’m keeping state secrets so feel free to ask.
And now, for me is the best time to explore Fediverse because I’m taking a little breather back in my hometown, somewhere far on the Eastern flanks of Europe, before I make a move to the Mediterranean in my 20+ year old Golf. So, if you’ve got any tips on exploring Fediverse and/or cool places to be in in the Balkans, I am all ears (eyes?).
As for my education and interests, I’m a jack of all trades, master of none. I mainly make my living with graphic design now and I’m planning to continue doing that. I currently work with small commercial projects and NGOs but my lil’ dream is to be self-sufficient as a professional artist in a niche space. My education is in philosophy and politically I lean quite far left, my field of interest being more historical than philosophical, which is to say I really like finding out more about the history of anarchism (and history in general). I also really like cars and If anyone knows of a space on Fediverse dedicated to DIY projects dealing with cars or home improvement please point me in the right direction. I also care about science and the Earth, I’m a bit of an unrealized hippie and the older I get the more I try to care about the earth. In general, I guess I’m a bit of a walking cabinet of curiosities. Oh and I almost forgot that I once almost went the path of a professional photographer. I still really enjoy photography, but I’m not as focused on it anymore. On the more underground side of things, I’ve been doing graffiti for almost 17 years now and I’m going through my second most active period since my early teen years now.
So by now I’ve probably either lost your attention or captured it, in either case, I’m battered because I’ve been dealing with moving myself and my stuff around the country and it’s my time to go cleanse myself and fall into a heavenly, deep sleep.
It’s nice to meet y’all and I’m looking forward to living here.
P.S. If anyone knows if/how I can connect to Mastodon with the account I’ve made here then that would be interesting to know. I’m new to both spaces although I’ve known about Mastodon for much longer.
Welcome, my friend. You can follow Lemmy accounts and communities via Mastodon but not vice versa, yet anyway. If you want to follow something here on Mastodon just type in username or community@mander.xyz on there.
Ps: Ljubljana is amazing. Don’t miss her.
Ljubljana’s great. I used to live in Slovenia, about 20km from Ljubljana, and visited it often. I’m planning to go there to visit my friends, hike and see what’s good in the culture scene. I’m moving to Split so it’s a bit of a drive, but not too bad.
Thanks for the tip! Nice avatar by the way!
Welcome, and I like your artwork a lot!
sup foo
Not much, I got my oat meal breakfast at the ready.
Good shit. You have fun stuff going on. What kind of car you have? Any recent noteworthy projects in any of your listed areas of interest?
It’s a Golf 4 TDI that I bought from my friend for super cheap. I’ll see how long the car lasts before I need to invest in fixing it properly. The idea is to tear it down and do my own project build with it when it gets to the point where it makes more sense to buy a new one rather than patching the old one.
As for projects, I’m currently working with the Latvian Centre for Contemporary Art on organizing their brand guidelines. And previously I did an identity for a project of theirs. That’s kinda the most fancy sounding project I’ve got going on even though it’s just a nice NGO.
Hell yeah. Love a good project. I have a 2010 4Runner and a 2000 Prelude. Last VW was a green Eurovan we had in the 90’s. Always wanted a golf though, cool car.
That’s awesome. Have any links?? Sounds fancy as all get out.
No links at the moment, it’s a rough WIP, but maybe by the time I’m finished with it, I’ll have found an art/graphic design community to post it in.
2000 Prelude is a very cool car. Have you got any pictures of it? I have a small dream of owning a T3 or T4 van, as much as I like sportier cars I am trying to be a bit more of a practical guy.
That’s fair. Hopefully I’ll end up subbing to wherever you post that would love to see.
Totally agree. Practical is the way to go. I ended up with this because a family friend sold it to my family for very cheap My brother drove it for a while and he let me have it back when it needed some work. So basically I got it for the cost of a bunch of minor repairs which was more labor than parts cost. I’ll take a picture tomorrow and post you a link.
I adore vans. In a different life I would easily have a van instead of what I have now.
I got mine from a friend as well. It’s been in his family for more than ten years. It’s nice to have a car that doesn’t have many underwater rocks.
Looking forward to the picture.
Hey, my Jerboa app was crashing non-stop for a few days. That’s been my primary Lemmy access. It’s up again! Here’s the car.
That’s a sweet ride, I love the metallic silver-blue color. It’s been a while since I’ve been on here too. Since then, I managed to move to Croatia and crash my Golf in Hungary. Luckily (incredibly so) the Golf is still drivable and I’m unhurt.
Cool stuff. Any chance you can share some pics of your graffiti?
Sure, here’s one of the latest ones I’m at least somewhat happy with. In general, I’m trying to paint more and use new techniques because I’ve been stuck with comfortable ones for a bit too long. This one’s more on the comfortable side of things.
Awesome
