just like we had lemmygrad.ml as an alternative for Reddit, we need to have an alternative for discord. discord’s new policies have been supressing servers and members left and right. Now there are some options that I want to present here

Guilded: Basically very nice UI, it’s completely free most nitro features of discord are completely free on Guilded. it has got more features that discord doesn’t have the only issue is that it is gaming centric and majority communities are related to gaming

Revolt: Github open source like lemmy same features as discord, good UI, there are some features like that it lacks but upcoming and promising.

slack and matrix are trash don’t fall for it

If somehow discord server gets banned, you would be thanking me for this.

thank you for reading and upvoting

I actually didn’t even read your original comment past the complaint about downvoting until you mentioned OP was downvoting everybody in the 2nd comment so I went back to read what it was about lol

Also lol at thinking a VPN in Switzerland is making it difficult for them. Read about Crypto AG https://www.swisscommunity.org/en/news-media/swiss-review/article/the-cia-used-a-swiss-company-to-spy-on-over-100-countries

If anything, all your measures are making you easier to detect and pick out from the crowd of noise

    There is no hiding

Don’t be a prick based off of one comment. Just because you don’t understand something doesn’t mean no one else does. I am well aware of the Swiss complicity in imperial activity. Imagine thinking a communist doesn’t know about how compromised switzerland is. I also understand how individual swiss people do take their reputation for privacy seriously. Just because the CIA uses a service does not mean it is wide open for the world to see. This is exactly what I meant when I referred to how stovepiped the intel world is. The CIA tends to use services specifically to protect them from the US government snooping. The world is not black and white and the imperial governments are not monoliths. There is no institution with a key to enter every single door - otherwise IP theft (between defense contracting companies, for example) would be far more prevalent. There are absolutely precautions which can be taken. So long as you don’t jump to number one on their list these orgs will not dedicate all their resources to finding out who you are. The FBI and CIA are far more interested in fomenting specific types of terrorism than in preventing communist communications, you can be cautious enough to avoid them discovering who you are. Like the US military, these orgs are way better at PR and stirring the pot than at actual surveillance.

Granted, I am no expert on the technical side, but I do understand how the government and intel world works

To add, I am under no illusions that many of my precautions may be for naught and undermined by some of my other activities on the internet, I just think that when you understand the inter-departmental red tape and the internal politics of who gets to see what, and who admits to what operations when, it doesn’t make sense to just throw comsec out the window

These are the words to live by. Although I know I can’t totally stop them but yeah I can go as far as making it so hard for them that it is not a viable option (to acquire my data) anymore

By understanding the imperial architecture my friend.

Me too. But seriously, my thought while writing this was that if we actualy had a discussion I’d bet we’d agree on many things, it’s just hard to express all our nuanced opinions in text.
