That’s exactly how it’s being spun in the news here. It’s exclusively referred to as a “sham referendum”, even before anything was known about it. Not a single article actually has any proof or even evidence at all that it’s a sham.

They’re welcome to visit Donetsk and ask people if they were forced to vote at gunpoint.

Can’t promise they’ll be safe thought, between “Petal” mines littering some streets, Ukrainian shellings, which serve no military purpose, and what some locals will do to them for implying they wanted to stay part of a nazi state responsible for the above and/or implying they know better than the locals who is shelling them and scattering the mines.

They are bit suspiciously high. Then again, why would anyone living in those regions want to stay part of Ukraine? It’s much poorer, offers only neoliberal hell, a collapsed economy, ultra-nationalism and hefty prison sentences for almost everyone in those regions. Besides, the people against the accession probably just stayed home anyway.

Don’t forget that Eastern areas of Ukraine are mostly Russian-speaking and linguistic and national questions here are very tied in together. With the reality of the current situation too.

Considering that every territory remaining under Ukraine control after all this will be thoroughly “derussified” and politically cleaned up by nazis like the abandoned areas around Izyum. Fate similar to that which was prepared for DPR and LPR since 2014.

Becoming part of Russia is a need for survival of those people at this point.

Hell, Russia was OK with just giving large minority Russian regions (kharkiv, Donetsk, Luhansk, Odessa) partial autonomy. That’s what was agreed about Donetsk and Luhansk in the Minsk accords that Zelensky ignored.

Important to take into account participation, comrades. In kherson, the actual support was like 55% iirc. In zaporizhia it was 60%. In Donetsk and Luhansk it was quite a lot higher iirc.

So, not really the “oh my god, obviously falsified referendums” that libs cry about.
