I agree. Discord and other shitty chat apps are some of the most useless, privacy destroying apps available right now. There is literally no use for them because we have Matrix and IRC. It just sucks that so many people bought into their huge pile of shit that unless you want to give up your social life, it is basically unaviodable.

You may not like Discord, but is not “shitty” or “useless”. Attitudes like this are precisely what discourage people from switching to alternatives.

Totally agree. Such comments really don’t help anyone…

I dislike Discord as a company and as a platform, but the service is pretty decent and if you fail to see the appeal it has for the average user, then you’re deceiving yourself.

Discord is worse than useless since it’s making the world a worse place than if it didn’t exist. Are there silver linings to it, have good things happened because of it? Maybe. But the drawbacks significantly outweigh the good.

      I’m about to generalize…

Gamers don’t have it in them to care about the nuance of privacy, or their future well being. Just look at them, the console gamers buy into a dystopian walled garden, and PC gamers aren’t too far behind, dealing with Microsoft’s control subverting spyware of an operating system. I don’t see this group making smart moves for themselves.

      #notallgamers don’t @ me.

IMO gamers are like this because, throughout the years, they have been slowly desensitized through more and more agressive practices: starting with “please don’t redistribute” and ending with literal rootkits
