People have noticed their pets reacting to the Oscar-winner “Flow” which features animated animals, making people wonder if their cat or dog recognizes themself on screen.

TLDR: “we don’t know”, says the article, “but we can hypothesize. Here’s a bunch of theories you probably already considered. But nobody did proper research on any. So go figure. Have you watched Severance tho?”

My cat mostly does not care about the things I watch on TV but if I put on a bird youtube video she will watch it intently for about 20 minutes before she gets bored and walks off. She also really likes mouse cursors.

I put on a bird video for my cat, she was very interested. One of the birds suddenly flew off, and she ran behind the tv in search of it. We laughed right in our cat’s face, at her expense.

I don’t know about that specific movie, but my dog 100% watches TV, especially if it’s an animal or I’m playing games.

When he sees a dog that looks like him tho, he is paying an insane amount of attention.

So he definitely isn’t just looking for moving blobs and reacting.

But it depends on your TV more than your pet these days.
